• CA requires physical, in-person appearance. Each person whose signature is notarized must appear in person before notary at appointment.

• Identification:​

  • Signers must present a current, government-issued photo ID 

  • Accepted forms of ID: California Driver's License or state ID card

  • U.S. passport 

  • Valid U.S. military or out-of-state driver's license

  • Valid (unexpired) foreign passport

• Credible Witnesses: If a valid ID is not available, signers may use two credible identifying witnesses who personally know signers and can swear to signers' identity. Each witness must present their own valid government issued photo ID.

• Documents must be completely filled out with no empty spaces. California prohibits notarizing a document with any blank field. Signer must mark "N/A" where applicable.

• Signer must understand the documents and be competent, acting willingly and able to communicate without interpreter.
